The SDI was known as the Strategic Defense Initiative. It was a plan by the United States under Ronald Reagan to establish a missile system in order to protect the United States. Fear grew during Reagan’s years as president regarding nuclear weapons. When countries started creating nuclear weapons, Reagan decided to do something about it. That is where this program began.
