The ozone layer is still depleting. But it did decrease in 1998 when efforts were made to stop destroying it. Over 50 percent of the lower stratospheric ozone is completely destroyed which takes place during the Antarctic spring. The main reason is due to the presence of chlorine-containing source gases that are related to halocarbons.

Some of the damage cannot be repaired and that is all there is to it. Some can be somewhat repaired. What we can do is to prevent further destructiion and in some ways, that is being done. Less fossil fuel use is one thing that can be done and not using aerosol which is one improvement that has been made.

But, there continue to be many activities that do harm the atmosphere and nothing much is being done so one has to wonder what will happen in the years to come.
