Avalanches can be deadly as some of them move by about 100 miles per hour and come down with a force and a vengeance. It simply destroys and wipes out everything in its way. There is nothing that can stand to its force, and vehicles, buildings, people, and animals all die as a result of being in the way of an avalanche that is large and broad. Some of the cities that have been wiped out have been the Yungay in Peru on May 1970, where there were 20,000 casualties. Another one was the Tyrolean Alps on 13th December 1916 where there were about 10,000 deaths.
These avalanches are often caused by a mix of heavy snowfall and sometimes man-made explosives. These slide down the mountain and gather with it large amounts of soil along with the ice and begin to increase in speed. As it comes down, it increases in force and speed and destroys everything in its way.
