The advantage of FUE is that the patient has the option to wear his or her very short in the future. Contrary to popular belief, FUE is not a scarless procedure. Anytime an excision of skin occurs in humans, the potential for scars exists. FUE leaves tiny circular microscars which are usually very small and hidden. But it is not scarless. The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) has issued a warning about physicians advertising FUE as a "scarless procedure"The survival of grafts obtained by FUE is not higher than with strip and in all likelihood is a bit less. How much less still remains to be determined and committees have been established to address this question.
