There are several factors that play into how Charles Dickens became so well known for his works. Many authors are doomed to anonymity until after their deaths, however, this was not the case for Dickens. One of the main reasons he became so prominent was the vast audience that his novels were able to reach. With the simplicity of his writing, he was able to reach a wider audience. From the lowest classes to the royal house, Dickens was a popular choice. The technology of the day also played into his success.

Books were being published on a wider and faster rate than they had previously, so getting material into the hands of eager readers was a much quicker process. Finally, while his books were fun to read, they also dealt with current issues that many were experiencing. While he could write about current events, the way that he worked them into stories gave them more of a voice and helped to raise awareness into some of the significant social issues of the day.
