Soup can certainly help you lose weight but not just any soup. Some soups are high in calories like cream soups. They won't help you lose weight and might actually cause you to gain weight. But broths are excellent for weight loss. They provide nutrients and help fill you up so you can get by with taking in less calories. You'll want to eat the kind without much sodium though or you may retain some water weight due to the salt.
With the right soup, you can ace a diet. Vegetable broth soup is one of the best kind to do this with because you get loads of vitamins and minerals. A chicken noodle soup is not the best weight loss soup because of the noodles. Using your noodle to figure out how many calories are in a soup will help greatly when determining if one is good for weight los or not. It also helps to leave off the crackers, cheese, or whatever else you might eat with a soup.
