This depends on the behaviour of humans in all 7 continents. The greenhouse gases that are so damaging can be reduced by cutting down on those activities that produce them. Sadly, the US has recently unsubscribed from the worldwide commitment to doing so.

If the world continues with high emissions of heat-trapping gases, the Antarctic ice could melt within a few decades, according to recent scientific warnings which are based on aerial views of the ice packs in Western Antarctica.

The great ice sheet is (or was) larger than Mexico, and is thought to be vulnerable to disintegration from a relatively small amount of global warming. If the ice melts it could raise the sea level by 12 feet or more. Until recently, researchers long assumed the worst effects would take hundreds perhaps thousands of years to occur. Not so, now.
