How are trichologists different from dermatologists?

Trichologists are paramedical professionals (not medical doctors) that specialise to oversee patients with hair and scalp disorders. They are often used by dermatologist to help manage minor hair disorders.

A trichologist cannot prescribe ‘prescription only’ medicines to a patient; they can only recommend creams, lotion or nutritional therapy to help the patient. They cannot carry out procedures that are associated with scalp injections unless they are supervised by a doctor/ dermatologist.

A dermatologist is a medical expert that specializes in managing conditions related to skin, nails, hair, and scalp and associated mucous layers. Dermatologists are qualified to consult, diagnose, prescribe medications, and perform treatment procedures for all conditions related to the skin.
