Montesquieu was one of the great French philosophers and his writing help spread hatred for French Monarchy. In his writing he explain how government might be preserved from corruption, he addressed the causes that constrained the development of the government. He saw despotism as a standing danger for any government.

He stated that it could be best be avoided by creating a system in which different bodies exercised legislative, executive and judicial power and each of the bodies were bound by the rule of law. He believed uniting these powers, as in the monarchy of Louis XIV, would lead to despotism.

This theory of separation of power had a huge impact and made the people hate the system of the French Monarchy.
