You may notice that you or someone you knew growing up had darker hair in the winter and fall but lighter hair in the spring and summer. This is due to the amount of time spent in the sun. The weather is much nicer in the summer time and there are often a lot more outdoor activities in the warm weather than when it is cold (and sometimes snowy) in the winter time.

You also tend to wear hats in the winter time. The sun can damage your hair the same way it can damage your skin. It can damage the cuticle and cause discoloration which is what you are noticing when people's hair gets lighter in the summer.
