Venus and Adonis is a narrative poem, which was published in 1593 and written by William Shakespeare. This poem is more than likely Shakespeare's first publication. The verse tells the story of Venus, who is the goddess of love, her love that is not returned, and of her attempted seduction of Adonis, an incredibly handsome young man, who would instead go away hunting.

Venus and Adonis is a story about unrequited love. It is a rather simple sonnet. Adonis does not share the same feelings for Venus. She pleaded with him and carried him in her arms trying to win his love.
