If you have ever heard of James Bond 007, you may have heard him say, “I like my martinis shaken and not stirred.” However, in real life it all depends upon the cocktail. Some of them are required to be shaken and others are required to be stirred. Unlike the movies, it is very uncommon for a customer to decide whether they want their drink shaken or stirred because that requirement goes along with certain types of drinks.

Some drinks do not require either. Fruity cocktails are generally stirred with a tall spoon. Other drinks that are usually not sweet by fruit are shaken. Martinis are actually stirred because they are a fruity drink, so James Bond has gotten this one wrong.
