The ocean floor is made up of several materials not with sand only. These materials vary by depth and location. In shallow areas of the ocean you will fine sand as you move deeper you will find thicker soils and sediments. Red clay covers a large part of the ocean floor. It is made up of quartz, clay materials and micrometeorites.

The deepest parts are made up of thick rocks and minerals, the rocks and minerals hold the water in the oceans. Also, sand is formed when rocks break down from weathering bad they are carried by river and lakes into larger bodies of water like the ocean.
