Mining industry is a Male dominated industry. Only about 9 percent of the fulltime workers in the mining industry are women. Over 30 percent of the women in the mining industry are machinery operators or drivers.
About 17 percent of mining engineering degrees in 2013 were awarded to women compared to with 6 percent seen in 1998. There has been an increase in the percentage of women in this industry. In years to come, more women will join the mining industry and take up more roles.
