The correct answer to this question is 2.6 mm. Vernier calipers were invented in 1631 by Pierre Vernier, hence the name. This instrument can measure both outside and inside dimensions, as well as depth. It is very accurate and can measure one-thousandth of an inch, as well as one-hundredth of a millimeter.

The interior dimensions it can measure include the diameter of a hole found on a piece of wood. The depth it can measure is how deep a hole goes, stepping from one end of the tunnel to another. Outside measurements using a vernier caliper can be used to measure width or length.
