It can be a bit embarrassing sometimes when your stomach starts to make gurgling sounds even after you have already eaten. The source of this is the contraction and the mixing of the food that you eat when the food is already being digested by your gastrointestinal tract.

You need to remember that your GI tract is also composed of muscles and they cannot help but affect the rest of your body. It would need to squeeze in the food to the intestines so that they can be digested further. The process of the GI tract mixing and squeezing food is also known as peristalsis.

The noise you hear in the stomach during digestion is related to the movement of food, liquid, digestive juice, and when there is air in the intestine. Abdominal sounds are made within the small and large intestine.

Abdominal sounds are normal, but frequent and loud sounds may indicate a condition in the digestive system. Some symptoms accompany bowel sounds that indicate that it is an underlying condition this includes: vomiting, fever, bloody stool, constipation, excess gas, sudden weight loss, and nausea, etc.

Sometimes you experience abdominal sounds even not during digestion. Some other causes of abdominal sounds include hunger, infection in the digestive system, a tumor, food allergies, laxative use, perforated ulcers, abdominal surgery. It is advisable that when you have unusual abdominal sound it is necessary to see your doctor.

The abdominal sounds that you will hear are because of the foods that are being digested in your abdominal area. The movement of your food will be determined by the sound that you will hear. Aside from the food, you are hearing the digestive juices and also the air that can be found in your stomach that are moving through your intestines.

The moment that your intestines start processing food, you will notice that your abdomen may start to growl or even grumble. There are instances when people would start to hear some sounds because they are already hungry. The digestive juices are trying to digest but there is no food to digest.

Digestion is breaking down the food in your stomach so you can hear it.
