Why do medicines have weird names and tastes?

Many active ingredients in medicine have bitter taste, this is responsible for the weird taste in your mouth.
Medicines have 2 names. The generic name and the brand name. The generic name is usually gotten from an active ingredient in the medicine and the brand name is the name under which the product is sold. In order to make things easy, medications that have similar active ingredients have similar generic name.

Example, anti hypertensive drugs like: Acebutolol, atenolol, betaxolol, bisoprolol, carvedilol. Notice how they all have similar suffix "lol". A brand name depends on what a pharmaceutical company choose to name their product.
