What are organisms that feed on dead organic matter called?

Saprotrophs are organisms that feed on dead organic matter. Saprotrophic organism includes bacterial and fungal, they are involving in critical decomposition and nutrient cycling. There are some major saprotroph groups which include

Fungi is the most efficient at decomposing complex organic molecules. They also recycle the complex organic molecules into nutrients back into the ecosystem. Bacteria is another major saprotroph. Bacteria are known for decomposing dead animal flesh and also converting the animal tissues to simpler organic compounds. Examples of bacteria include Escherichia Coli. Water mold or Oomycetes decompose both plant and animal material. Water mold is the most important decomposer in the aquatic environment.

You would call those that would break down organic materials decomposers. They feed on different types of dead living materials such as plants, animals, wood, and so much more. By doing this, they are helping the cleanup of the different things that can be found on earth take place.

If there are no decomposers, the different living things that have died will only be piled up on the ground and they will continue to pile up until there will not be enough space for people to move around anymore. Can you imagine if the dead leaves would stay on the ground for as long as you would leave them there? This can become problematic in the long run.
