The best position that the patient should be in is the orthopneic position. This is similar to a sitting position wherein the person must be kept at this position in order to breathe properly. There are some people who would need to be supported by a lot of pillows while sitting down on the bed. Another option is to allow the person to sit on a chair.

This is the type of position done for people who are having breathing difficulties. Those who are suffering from hypotension would need to be placed in this position immediately. This is also facilitated by nurses during medical emergencies.
