I do not think Beethoven was ever a conductor for orchestras, he was known to be a composer and a pianist. He was popular in the 19th century. He composed about 9 symphonies for orchestras and many pieces for occasional music. He also wrote 7 concertos. He had about 32 piano sonatas.

Most of Beethoven's pieces and sonatas are still in use till this day. There is no record of Beethoven being a conductor for orchestras. It is also recorded that Beethoven had hearing loss at some point in his career which means being a conductor would have been bad for him.
