Tennis was removed from the Olympics due to a disagreement between the governing body of Olympics and Tennis that is the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Lawn Tennis Federation (ILTF) after the 1924 summer Olympics in Athens, Greece because of amateur rules of the time.

The dispute was mainly over allowing amateur players to compete in the game. Tennis did not appear in Olympics for a long time until the problem was resolved in Seoul, South Korea 1988 summer Olympics. Since 1988 till date,IOC has allowed professional tennis players to compete in Olympics as a full medal sport.
