The average weight of a bagpipe is about 5.5pounds compared to other wood wind instruments like the flute and clarinet, the bagpipe is a bit heavy. The bagpipe has many parts, it consist of blow sticks, bass drone, tenor drones, chanter, drone cords, bag and many reeds.

All these parts add up to the total weight of a bagpipe. The traditional bagpipe are heavier than the modern day bagpipe. The traditional bagpipe are made from hard wood and animal skin which are heavy compared to the modern day type that are made from plastics.
