The character Crash Bandicoot from the video game of the same name was based on an Eastern-barred bandicoot. However, that’s probably where the similarities end. For one reason, Crash Bandicoot was genetically modified by Doctor Neo Cortex and as a result Crash can laugh and cry, something a real bandicoot, of course, cannot do.

Crash also yells “Whoa” when he is being harmed. A real bandicoot makes a shrill squeak when being disturbed. Also Crash likes to relax in the sun and a real bandicoot would more likely be found sleeping during the day in a camouflaged nests, since they hunt for food at night.
