The Carnatic flute is known to be called Venu. This is a type of flute that is made out of bamboo. This is used as one of the traditional instruments of those who play Indian Carnatic music. This instrument comes with 8 finger holes and there are some who say that this is challenging to play. The more that you play it though, the more that you will understand how this flute can be played with ease.

The unique sound of this flute is actually easy to distinguish. It may be a bit hard to use if you plan to play it for the modern music of today. In Indian genre, it belongs very well.

Carnatic flutes, also called Venus originated in South India. It is one of three original instruments for making music along with the stringed veena and the human voice. There are several techniques to playing them and these include overblowing, cross fingering, finger sliding, and coordinated breath.

The first recorded instance of the Carnatic flute is in the Natya Shastra which is a Sanskrit text on the arts and music. Though this flute is an ancient instrument, Sri Sarabha Sastri was the catalyst for it being accepted on the Carnatic stage.
