People celebrate Mother’s Day for a variety of reasons. However, one reason it exists is because the card, candy, and other companies caught whiff of the idea, thought it was good, and pushed it on us. Other people celebrate it to give their mother a day of recognition.

After all, without our mothers, most of us wouldn’t have been born. While some mothers may not want to be celebrated, other mothers look forward to the day. If the children are not in the home anymore, it’s a good day for the mom because she gets to talk to all her kids on one day, which is most likely a rare occurrence. In all, it’s just a day to remember your mother and what she’s done for her, and give back to her.

Cynics would say that the more Days are celebrated, the better for the card and gift industry, but Mothers Day is celebrated in 40 different countries and does have particular significance. It's a chance to re-establish close bonds.

Most people want to thank the person who gave them birth, and may have sacrificed a great deal in the task of bringing them up. There's the religious association, too. The Virgin Mary is held as the ultimate in motherhood, and to celebrate this is to value Her.
