Since I am a huge rock music fan, I will answer this question with some of my favorite one-hit rock artists and the year they first appeared as hits: Steeler’s Wheel, Stuck in the Middle with You (1972), Norman Greenbaum, Spirit in the Sky (1969), Semisonic, Closing Time (1999), Blues Traveler, Hook (1994), and Ten Years After – I’d Love to Change the World (1971).
A one hit wonder is what a singer is called when they have one song that becomes massively popular very quickly but never releases another song that gains much popularity after that. There are a suprising amount of one hit wonders that most likely will not sound familiar to you but if you listen to the song you could recognize it immediately or even know all of the words.
Some examples are Los del Rio with "Macarena", Soft Cell with "Tainted Love", Vanilla Ice with "Ice Ice Baby", and Nena with 99 Luftballoons which is also called 99 Red Baloons.
