Why couldn't African countries stabilise their economies?

When countries are new to assuming responsibility for governing their land corruption, intimidation and worse very often follow. It takes time for a country to mature and recognise that the good of all must be served, not just the few in a ruler's immediate circle. Having said that, a mature country like the US is showing the same nepotism.

Europe had the advantage of age and the wisdom of great philosophers. Africa is often so economically poor that philosophy must seem a luxury to come long after ensuring food and water supplies are met.

There are many reasons why African countries have trouble stabilizing their economies: civil wars and terrorism, endless corruption, lack of basic education and inadequacy of technical skills, lack of health care, poverty, geography, international aid, and unfair trade policies. A lot of these issues are related. For example, civil wars and terrorism destroy a country’s infrastructure causing people to lose jobs.

Those who are not killed are often injured and may lose their homes which just leads to more poverty. Regarding international aid, African countries are losing more than they are gaining. Health Poverty Actions second “Honest Accounts 2017 – How the World Profits from Africa” says “many people living in Africa’s 47 countries remain trapped in poverty, while much of the continent’s wealth is being extracted by those outside it.”
