While both the sales and marketing are directed towards an increase in the overall revenue, they are quite different. A lot of people use these terms interchangeably because they do not know the different among them. After all, both of these areas are quite intertwined closely. Marketing is about systematic plans and their implementation.

Where sales are about transactions that occur between two parties when the buyer buys a good in exchange of an asset that he/she owns. In general, sales are only directed towards matching the demand of customers with the company products whereas marketing places a strategy to get the product in the market out there.
