Attrition means a breaking, a rubbing of things together, abrasion. In the business world attrition refers to a loss of employees when this loss is not wanted by the company. It can also mean the loss or great reduction in customers to the company.
Equally, it can refer to the drop-out rate of students on a course, or participants in a psychological or other experiment. Attrition applies to many fields, such as loss of personnel or equipment in the military. In dentistry, attrition is the severe wear in the lower teeth.
