The quote, "In the world of pop music, there is Michael Jackson and there is everybody else" was written by Jon Pareles and published in The New York Times as part of the January 14, 1984 article Michael Jackson at 25: A Musical Phenomenon." In his article, Pareles discusses Jackson's life history and all of his successes.

The article is over 1400 words long, and is a glowing recommendation for Michael Jackson's musical and performing talent. The quote, "In the world of pop music, there is Michael Jackson and there is everybody else" talks about how the performer is unique and different in his talents.
