An international mapping company known as ERSI compiled a list of the top ten most dangerous waterways where ships are likely to be attacked by pirates. The list was based on date from July 2015 to July 2016. In decreasing order, along with the number of attacks in parentheses, these waters are: Celebus Sea (14), North Yellow Sea (16), Arabian Sea (22), Java Sea (24), Bay of Bengal (30), Malacca Strait (36), Caribbean Sea (38), Singapore Strati (60), South China Sea (62), and Gulf of Guinea (116).
