There are many athletes who are vilified more for taking enhancing drugs during their sport where others are not vilified as much for doing the exact same thing. It seems that there are two reasons why certain athletes are vilified more than others. One is if the athlete did these drugs like steroids for a longer period of time than others. People may feel that they were tricked for many years unlike another person who was caught relatively quickly for using enhancing drugs. Another reason is if the person is popular.

They feel that these athletes who are popular and are found using steroids, like Barry Bonds, are setting a poor example for children who look up to him. The public will be angrier at him than someone who the general public doesn’t really know.
