There are many female directors in Hollywood, but they did not begin as directors but instead as actresses. Their way of becoming a director for a major film came by way of their acting. There are very few top female directors who did not start as an actress but instead became a director and rose to power through directing films. It seems that directing is still considered to be a man’s job in Hollywood.
This hasn’t changed over time as much as other jobs in other industries. Women may prefer to be actresses instead of directing which is why not as many women go into directing. However, it does seem like more and more female directors are becoming famous and rising to power in Hollywood.
