The Cannes Film Festival takes place in Cannes, France and began in 1946 where independent filmmakers would enter their films into this festival. This was one way to become known for their directing and producing. Then they could become famous producers and make more films. This festival happens every year in France. It was first known as the International Film Festival, but then it changed its name in 2002 due to the other film festivals happening throughout the world.
Due to the location of this festival, many people are known to be involved in the sex trade. One instance happened in 2007 when someone was operating a prostitution ring during the festival. He was sentences to several years in prison and it became exposed that this was happening.
