Do they finish the meal or not in movie scenes where actors are eating, after the scene?

Typically in movies, TV shows, and commercials, the actors and actresses are not eating the food at all. They have to do so many takes that if they put food in their mouth they usually spit it out into a bucket nearby.

Sometimes the food in the scenes is not even real. I suppose if there is a scene that requires the actors or actresses to eat the food because the camera does not pan away, they may have to eat the food but they probably do not finish it after the scene is over. Maybe they let the stage crew eat any leftovers, that is if the food is real and edible .
