Walking around a Mexican city is no better or no worse than walking around any big city, especially if you are a tourist and a foreigner. Most foreigners are easy to identify and can be targets of pick pockets, beggars and thieves. If you stay in the main and popular parts of any city, you should be safe. However, taking a few precautions are always advisable.
Be aware and stay alert about your surroundings. Don’t carry your wallet in your back pocket. Put your purse over your shoulder and around your chest. If you want to visit places within the city, know where you want to go and find reliable transportation services.
