I believe there is some truth to the idea that the more successful your spouse is, the more likely he or she is to cheat. Success typically gives a person power and of course more money. The more powerful a person feels, the more confidence they have. This confidence leads to a feeling they can do almost anything they want and it makes them feel more attractive.

At the same time, this confidence can make them feel more isolated, creating a distance in their relationships and a feeling that if they cheat, they won’t get caught. It’s also interesting to note a recent study showed brain structures associated with positive feelings are more active when people are given even a brief feeling of power.
