The army of the dead arrives as Tormund and Beric are in charge of the Eastwatch's defenses. As the dragon comes closer, Viserion burns through the wall and Eastwatch is destroyed. The scene leaves the viewer wondering whether the two survived or not. I believe they will survive because I think they are both likable characters and it makes sense for them to play a role in season eight.
Jon Snow and Mance Rayder need Tormund especially because he is so loyal. He is also a fierce fighter and can get along with those who were once his enemies. It would not make sense for the show to kill off this character.
