Patriotism is defined as “devoted love, support, and defense of one’s county”. So of course people can and should still be considered patriotic if they chose not to serve in the military to defend one’s country. There are many other ways to display patriotism. For example, display your country’s flag. Pray. Pray not just for all the soldiers who died in battle, but pray for victims of school shootings, domestic violence and racist actions.

Fight for justice and democracy by engaging in civil disobedience. Help care for the poor and less fortunate people in your community and proactively look for other ways to share your love and support for one’s country.
