Since planes fly through clouds, they get close to lightning. Often planes are struck by lightning. It happens so often that it is believed that every plane has been struck by lightning at least once even if it is slightly struck. In most cases, it is the airplane’s fault for causing the lightning strike because they got so close to the clouds and lightning.

Planes are equipped and made to be lightning-proof. These airplanes conduct electricity very well due to their make-up. Passengers will feel something like a jolt or shake, but as far as being in danger, they are not. The last plane crash where there were injuries or fatalities and that was caused by lightning took place in the 1960s when there weren’t any precautions in place.
