Slate is the weather resistant water proof rock formed by metamorphosis of shale. Slate is mostly a fine grained foliated homogeneous type of rock which is from a parent rock that is mostly shale or mud stone.

Slate is formed under low grade metamorphic conditions like temperature and pressure. The original materials found in slate are fine clay, sand and sometimes volcanic dust. Slate is also use for roofing, flooring because of its durability and attractive appearance.
