Well, if you have a router or wifi then you need only the network security key for it.

You can connect to a network through ethernet too.

An internet node attaches to a network and is capable of creating, receiving or transmitting information over a communication channel. It is a connection point for data transmission.

Mainframe is capable of serving a large number of networks nodes geographically dispersed across the world.
A local Area Network (LAN) is a computer network that interconnects computers within a limited area such as schools and offices.
