Driving a forklift can prove to be a quite agressive activity, especially if you're not actually carrying a load. Forklift brakes are designed to stop a forklift that is carrying a load. Since these brakes have to be prepared for quite heavy loads , a normal braking technique might not be your best option. An alternate technique that is used is known as plugging.

This maneuver is enacted when a forklift operator selects the opposite direction that they are already traveling in order to slow the forklift down. When performing this maneuver you should be warned that you will need plenty of room to stop as it may take longer to actaully come to a stop.

True

Plugging can be used in the place of braking but allow plenty of room to stop when using this method.
